Morgan Sindall delivers 2,200 place school and sixth form through Major Works Framework

26 January 2024

One of the largest new schools in the UK – Kenilworth School and Sixth Form in Warwick – has opened its doors after successful delivery by contractor Morgan Sindall, having been procured through our Major Works Framework.

The brand-new three-storey campus forms part of Warwick District Council’s plans to increase school places and improve facilities in the region. Now offering 2,200 places, an increase of 400 from the previous building, the £44m school run by Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust (KMAT) will help to cater for the growing population in Kenilworth – a market town six miles southwest of Coventry.

Jonathan Oram, our Director of Frameworks, said: “The new school in Kenilworth is a valuable upgrade within the area and will serve the growing community well. A project of this scale requires a thorough procurement process, and this is exactly what our Major Works Framework offered.

“Morgan Sindall has provided an exemplary service throughout the project and the end result is one to be proud of. We’re proud to have played our part in turning the vision into reality, making the process easier for the client and available to the most competitive supplier.”

Having previously been located over two sites, the school and six form has been consolidated into one site over 36 acres of land. Features include extensive teaching and social provision including two floodlit all-weather pitches, natural grass pitches and hard-court areas, as well as a dining room, hall and theatre, community sports and changing facilities, and a special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) suite.

The community and local sports clubs will have use of sports and leisure facilities, and community groups will be able to hire the hall and theatre, and other facilities at the school.

Richard Fielding, Area Director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “KMAT already had an existing reputation as one of the best schools in the area, so it was an honour to be a part of developing it even further. The completion of the new school marks exciting progress in the provision of public services for the growing town of Kenilworth. We are delighted to have completed construction works on one of the largest schools to have been built in the UK, and to deliver facilities which will benefit not only students and staff at the school, but the wider community for years to come.”

Hayden Abbott, executive head of Kenilworth School and KMAT, said: “The construction of the new school marks the start of a new and exciting phase for Kenilworth School and Sixth Form. The excellent relationships with the team at Morgan Sindall, working closely with KMAT, our representatives and other partners, have ensured that the building and facilities will benefit many people in years to come.”
