The construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall is delivering ten new homes on the site of St Albans’ former museum, as part of a major regeneration plan for the city centre.

“This is a significant project for St Albans and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with the council to deliver these new homes, which we hope will provide a valued addition to the local community.” - Sean Bradley, Managing Director for Morgan Sindall's London and Northern Home Counties Region

The project for St Albans City and District Council will transform the former Museum of St Albans, on Hatfield Road, into a housing scheme. The scheme is part of the council’s wider vision to develop a new cultural hub in St Albans’ city centre.

The Morgan Sindall team will oversee the construction of the new homes, with the existing museum building altered and extended to create four, four-bedroom and two, three-bedroom open-plan units. While a bungalow on the site will be demolished and replaced with four terraced homes, each featuring four bedrooms.

Morgan Sindall was appointed to the project via the Pagabo National Framework for Major Construction Works: a user-friendly, flexible mechanism focused on delivering a best-in-class user experience by offering a wide range of procurement routes and contracts across sectors, enabling efficient process and early commencement on site.

The framework caters to public sector bodies, charities and universities on schemes across England and Scotland, offering an end-to-end solution with support through early contractual discussions. Morgan Sindall has been appointed on all three lots of the framework across England, which will see the company bid for schemes ranging in value from £5 million to over £50 million.

Sean Bradley, managing director for Morgan Sindall’s London and Northern Home Counties region, said: “The Museum of St Albans housing scheme is a transformational project that will form part of the council’s exciting new vision to regenerate the city centre.

“Pagabo is a fantastic delivery vehicle, which puts our customers’ needs at the heart of the process and we look forward to delivering ambitious, transformational schemes, like this one, across the country via the framework.

“This is a significant project for St Albans and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with the council to deliver these new homes, which we hope will provide a valued addition to the local community.”

Councillor Julian Daly, Portfolio Holder for Commercial and Development for St Albans City and District Council, said: “The development of the former museum site with our partners Morgan Sindall is on schedule and will create ten new homes in a high demand area.

“This initiative will also provide the money the Council needs to fund the Museum and Art Gallery. These projects show our commitment to working with others to make substantial, high quality improvements to our District.”
