Work has started to provide additional learning spaces at Saxilby Primary School

29 January 2024

The extension will provide dedicated learning spaces for the children and return the staff room back to the teachers, after it was converted to a classroom to cope with the number of pupils.

Lincolnshire County Council wanted a quick and compliant procurement route to find the best suited contractor for the scheme, our Medium Works Framework was able to help with that. Lindum Group is developing a three classroom extension that will link with the rest of the school. The work is expected to help ease pressure on the school, providing additional teaching spaces to cater to both current and future pupils.

This is the second part of a two phase plan to increase capacity at the school. Lindum finished work on an initial three classroom block in 2019, which also included extending the 5-a-side football pitches. The new extension will connect to the building from the previous phase.

Sam Jackson, Saxilby Primary School Headteacher, said: “The commencement of the building project here at Saxilby Church of England Primary School is filling us with excitement for the future.

“Three new classrooms will create much needed space for the children to flourish. Although the project is in its infancy, we are getting used to our short-term arrangements and are thankful to Lindum for the professional manner in which they have gone about their business.”

When the project is completed, a temporary mobile classroom that has been used to provide an education space to the increased number of children will be removed. The school’s staff room has also been repurposed as a classroom to cope with the number of students. Once the extension is finished, this will be returned to the teachers.

The new extension will also help to lower the school’s overall running costs, with the installation of solar panels.

David Llewellyn, Head of Construction and Infrastructure at Pagabo, said: “Pagabo is delighted to have been able to offer compliant procurement through our Medium Works Framework for Lincolnshire County Council.

“Working at speed, Lindum Group was appointed through a direct award to carry out the works at Saxilby Primary School. It’s great to see that this extension will provide a real benefit to pupils, teachers and the local community for years to come.”

Simon Hope, Construction Manager at Lindum, said: “It is fantastic to be back at Saxilby Primary School to finish the project we started back in 2019.

“This extension is going to make a significant difference to both the school and its students, providing a dedicated teaching area and removing the need for temporary classrooms. Not only will this create a better learning environment for the children, but it will also return the staff room back to the teachers, giving them a place that can cater to their needs throughout a school day.

“This project has been five years in the making across both phases, so it is very exciting to be coming to an end and being able to help the school provide enough classroom space for all the children that need it.”

Whilst on site, Lindum will also work on redesigning the existing car park to make it more user friendly and increase the capacity. Three new spaces will also be created.

Work started at the beginning of the year and is due to finish in September.
